Classic Sylvester Stallone Movie Returns to Theaters in 4K With an Exciting Bonus

Amazon MGM Studios and Park Circus have partnered with Fathom Entertainment for the upcoming special screenings of Sylvester Stallone‘s acclaimed sports drama film Rocky. During its initial theatrical run, the 1976 movie became an instant box office hit while also garnering critical acclaim. It currently holds a Certified Fresh score of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 74 reviews.

“Rocky Balboa (Stallone) is a struggling Philadelphia boxer who is scorned by his gym’s owner, patronized by a loan shark, and rebuffed by a shy ‘plain-Jane,’ whose butcher brother keeps engineering a romantic match,” reads the official synopsis. Rocky would have remained in this rut had not heavyweight champion Apollo Creed come up with the Bicentennial gimmick to give a chance for a ‘nobody’ to become a ‘somebody’. The ‘Italian Stallion’ trains earnestly and goes the distance…against all odds!”

When is the rerelease date for Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky movie?

In celebration of its 50th anniversary, the remastered 4K version of 1976’s pop culture phenomenon, Rocky, will officially return to theaters starting from November 7 to November 11. Fans will also be treated to an exclusive sneak peek of Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming biographical drama film, I Play Rocky, which will chronicle the challenging production of Rocky. In addition, the limited screenings will also include a theatrical introduction from I Play Rocky’s cast and director Peter Farrelly.

“The ultimate inspirational sports movie masterpiece, Rocky has a special place in the hearts of American cinematic history. Sylvester Stallone’s remarkable career – mirroring the very underdog spirit that Rocky embodies – is on full display in Rocky 50. Fathom could not be more proud to partner with Amazon MGM Studios, and Park Circus to bring Rocky back to the big screen remastered in 4K for a special 50-year celebration,” Fathom Entertainment said in a statement. “Just in time with an exclusive look and welcome prior to the world premiere of I Play Rocky, Rocky 50 will be a must-see theatrical event beginning November 7.”

John G. Avildsen directed the original movie from a screenplay written by Stallone. The ensemble cast also included Talia Shire as Adrian, Burt Young as Paulie Pennino, Carl Weathers as Apollo Creed, Burgess Meredith as Mickey, Thayer David as Miles, Joe Spinell as Tony Gazzo, Tony Burton as Duke, and more. Since its debut, the film has grossed $225 million at the box office over a budget of only $960,000.
