4 Epic Star Wars Movies To Stream on Hulu

Ahead of Star Wars Day, four beloved films from the franchise will be added to Hulu’s content library next month. Created by George Lucas, the franchise remains one of the most iconic space opera sagas, with a lasting global cultural impact.

Star Wars original trilogy and Rogue One will arrive on Hulu in May

Four highly acclaimed sci-fi films—Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back, Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story—will begin streaming on Hulu from Friday, May 1, 2026. This is just a few days ahead of Star Wars Day, which is on Monday, May 4.

The space saga began with A New Hope in 1977, which was simply titled Star Wars at the time of the initial release. Along with originating the idea, George Lucas wrote and directed the film. During an interview, he said that he was inspired by the 1936 sci-fi series Flash Gordon, which he grew up on.

But before Star Wars landed with 20th Century Fox, several studios had turned down the script. Lucas also explained that the first draft of the film was ambitious and too big to film, and ultimately decided to film only the first act.

Eventually, A New Hope debuted in theaters on May 25, 1977, and instantly became a global phenomenon. It has a near-perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 94% critic rating and a 96% user rating.

Subsequent sequels, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, followed in 1980 and 1983, respectively. The viewers praised the second film for its darker and more mature themes. Meanwhile, they hailed the final installment for ending the trilogy on a highly satisfying note.

On the review aggregator site, The Empire Strikes Back boasts a 93% critic rating and 97% user rating. Meanwhile, Return of the Jedi has a critic approval rating of 83% and a user rating of 94$. Cumulatively, the original trilogy grossed roughly $1.8 billion (not adjusted for inflation) at the global box office.

The franchise also has a standalone sequel, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Its story takes place between the original and prequel trilogies. It is one of the few modern spin-offs that received unanimous praise. On Rotten Tomatoes, it holds an impressive 84% critic score and 87% user score. Consequently, the film made a little over $1 billion worldwide.
