Robert Downey Jr. Makes a Tony Stark Entrance, Faces off With Chris Evans
Robert Downey Jr. proved that you can take the man out of the suit, but never the showman out of the man at CinemaCon 2026. The Avengers: Doomsday star made a Tony Stark entrance before facing off with Chris Evans on stage in a moment that had the internet picking sides all over again.

Robert Downey Jr. made a Tony Stark-style entrance at CinemaCon 2026 while wearing a Doom shirt.
The actor joined the stage alongside Chris Evans for a face-off moment during Disney’s presentation. Marvel Studios shared the moment on X (formerly Twitter), captioning it, “This guy… Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans face off on the CinemaCon stage.”
The two stars appeared together to unveil the first full-length trailer for Avengers: Doomsday. Marvel Studios posted on X, “Welcome to #CinemaCon, Victor Von Doom. Avengers: Doomsday arrives in theaters December 18.” Downey Jr. and Evans played the trailer twice for the exhibitors.
The trailer opens with Downey Jr.’s green-hooded, metal-faced Doctor Doom preparing to invade the multiverse. Patrick Stewart’s Professor Xavier appears at the X-Mansion window as a bright flash signals trouble. The footage features crossovers, including Gambit and Shang-Chi battling and Thor facing off against Doom.
Doom catches Thor’s magical hammer, Mjolnir, with his bare hands during their confrontation. Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers also returns and reunites with Thor in the trailer’s biggest moment. Rogers picks up Mjolnir again, echoing his iconic move during the Thanos battle in Avengers: Endgame.
The trailer also shows the Fantastic Four meeting the New Avengers after their post-credits crossover in Thunderbolts*. A showdown between Black Panther’s Wakandan forces and Namor’s Talokans also features prominently. Mystique becomes Yelena Belova, creating a Florence Pugh vs. Florence Pugh fight sequence.
Joe and Anthony Russo direct Doomsday and 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars, concluding the Multiverse Saga. Avengers 5 opens on the same day as Dune: Part III on December 18.
