The new teaser brings back Tom Hanks and Tim Allen for a story that pits the iconic duo against each other while the entire toy box faces its most modern threat yet: screen time.

The Toy Story 5 trailer depicted a grim reality for the gang inside Bonnie’s room. Bonnie, voiced by Scarlett Spears, has shifted her attention entirely to a new device named Lilypad. Voiced by Greta Lee, this tablet is shaped like a frog and allows endless group chats and gaming. The classic playthings, including favorites like Sporkey, Rex, Hamm, and Bo Peep, are left gathering dust as they watch their owner stare at a glowing screen.
In a bid to survive this digital takeover, the toys call for backup. Woody responds, but his return is far from triumphant. The Toy Story 5 trailer shows him sporting a few extra pounds, a receding hairline, and a weathered poncho evoking classic movie gunslingers. While Woody seems ready to take charge, Buzz Lightyear reacts with wounded pride. The first look culminates in a standoff between the cowboy and the space ranger over who holds the authority to fix things.
Stars Tom Hanks and Tim Allen went on stage together to share this first glimpse with exhibitors. Both actors acknowledged the staggering passage of time since the original movie debuted back in 1995. “We looked at a video of us doing the first one — we look like our grandchildren,” Allen joked. Hanks remarked that viewing the vintage behind-the-scenes material made him feel like he was watching himself in “junior high school.”
Andrew Stanton, known for steering WALL-E and “Finding Nemo,” is directing the upcoming movie. The ensemble voice cast also features returning talent like Joan Cusack alongside new additions Tony Hale and Conan O’Brien (via Variety).
Toy Story 5’s release date is June 19.
