Popular Brad Pitt Action Movie Getting Sequel
One of Brad Pitt‘s most popular action movies is officially getting a sequel, confirming a long-in-development project that seems closer to becoming real.
What Brad Pitt action movie is getting a sequel?
World War Z, the 2013 action horror movie about a zombie apocalypse, is getting a sequel. The news was confirmed during Paramount Pictures’ presentation at CinemaCon 2026. Currently, it’s unclear whether or not Pitt will be involved in the sequel in any way, as it’s unknown what the film will tackle, plot wise.
The original film was released in 2013 and inspired by the 2006 novel by Max Brooks, which is presented as an oral history of a zombie apocalypse. The movie took some liberties with the story, focusing on the story of Gerald Lane (Pitt), a retired United Nations investigator who is recalled to duty to try and find a cure for a zombie pandemic that’s overtaken the world.
Alongside Pitt, the movie also starred Mireille Enos, James Badge Dale, and Matthew Fox, and was directed by Marc Foster from a script written by Matthew Michael Carnahan, Drew Goddard, and Damon Lindelof. The movie received mostly positive reviews, but was an absolute smash hit at the box office. The movie earned $540 million at the box office, making it the highest-grossing zombie film of all time.
A sequel to the project has been talked about for years and was even announced right after the film originally released, with Foster and Paramount reportedly viewing the movie as the first in a trilogy. Various delays kept the project unrealized, and in 2019, the project was canceled. While it’s unclear exactly what happened, a report from THR at the time noted that China’s ban on movies featuring zombies or ghosts had factored heavily into the decision to cancel the movie.
