Minions & Monsters get new footage
Universal Pictures unveiled new footage of Minions & Monsters at CinemaCon 2026. Illumination chief Chris Meledandri presented the sequence, introduced by Jack Black. The animated film releases on July 1.
The footage opens with Minions in the Midwest chasing a cowboy thief on horseback. The thief flees atop a train, then attempts escape on a plane. The Minions pull the plane down, crashing it in Los Angeles streets. They encounter an aspiring director voiced by Christoph Waltz (via Deadline).
A second scene shows the Minions arriving at a Hollywood studio lot. They dress as a medieval army battling Viking invaders for a film shoot. The Minions pull out weapons, treating the staged battle like a real one. They become movie stars until talkies arrive, when their inability to handle dialogue ends their careers (via IGN).
The Minions lose their studio jobs and wander the streets. Their human friends, brothers James and Henry, decide to make their own movie called Minions & Monsters. The Minions then place the world in jeopardy through events teased in the footage.
Pierre Coffin directs Minions & Monsters. Coffin helmed the first three Despicable Me films and the first Minions movie. He has voiced the Minions since 2010. Brian Lynch penned the script alongside Coffin and executive-produced the film. Meledandri and Bill Ryan produce.
The voice cast includes Christoph Waltz, Jeff Bridges as the studio head, Allison Janney, Jesse Eisenberg, Zoey Deutch, and Trey Parker. The film is set in 1920s Los Angeles and follows a group of Minions looking for a new master.
