Marvel Fires 8% of Staff Amid Disney Layoff Call

Marvel has reportedly cut around 8% of its workforce as part of a wider round of layoffs initiated by parent company The Walt Disney Company. The move is a part of a restructuring effort across the company, impacting multiple departments within Marvel’s operations.

Here are all the details on the latest Marvel layoffs.

Marvel to reportedly lay off 8% of its total staff

Marvel is reportedly facing another round of job cuts. According to Deadline, close to 8% of its workforce is expected to be affected as part of ongoing changes at parent company The Walt Disney Company. The reductions are said to span both Marvel Entertainment in New York and Marvel Studios in Burbank. This reflects a broad impact across the company’s core operations.

The reported layoffs are understood to cover multiple areas of the business. These include film and television production, comics publishing, franchise operations, finance, legal, and visual development.

As per the publication, the visual development division could see some of the most notable changes. The company expected to scale back its in-house team. Furthermore, they are set to retain a small team to oversee the hiring of artists on a project-by-project basis. These artists will operate as outside contractors.

The cuts come amid a wider wave of layoffs at The Walt Disney Company. Up to 1,000 roles are expected to be eliminated across divisions. Moreover, the restructuring is taking place under the leadership of Josh D’Amaro. It follows recent changes that brought Disney’s marketing operations across film, television, and streaming under a unified structure led by Asad Ayaz. A significant portion of the planned job cuts is believed to be related to this consolidation.

This marks the second notable instance of workforce reduction at Marvel in recent years, following a smaller round of layoffs in 2024, over a decade ago.
