Latest Man of Tomorrow Filming Update Is Great News
DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran recently offered an update on Man of Tomorrow‘s production at CinemaCon, revealing when filming for the DCU movie would commence. Launching next summer, the highly anticipated follow-up will introduce one of Superman’s most iconic enemies to the big screen: Brainiac. It will also see the Man of Steel join forces with his archenemy, Lex Luthor, to face a huge threat, essentially teasing an intriguing dynamic between the pair following their conflict in the previous film.
Peter Safran shares when exactly Man of Tomorrow will start production
At CinemaCon, Peter Safran confirmed that filming on Man of Tomorrow would commence next week. He said, “Cameras roll next week on Man of Tomorrow” (via Cosmic Book News). While it was known that production would begin in April, his confirmation offers a concrete timeframe. Meanwhile, Rachel Brosnahan, who will reprise Lois Lane, revealed on First We Feast’s Hot Ones that she would start shooting shortly.
Filming will reportedly start at Trilith Studios in Fayetteville, Georgia. Production will also reportedly take place in Macon, Georgia — a move that could benefit the local economy (via 13WMaz), Cincinnati, and the United Kingdom. Pre-production had started by November 2025, with James Gunn confirming on Instagram that he had made a series of storyboards for the crew.
Man of Tomorrow soars into theaters on July 9, 2027. Gunn assumes writing and directing duties once again, having done so for its predecessor. The filmmaker teased on The Howard Stern Show that while the story was about Superman (David Corenswet) and Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) joining forces to combat a larger threat, it was “more complicated than that.” He added that the film would revolve around the billionaire scientist as much as it focused on the latter.
In addition to Corenswet, Brosnahan, and Hoult, Man of Tomorrow will also reportedly see Skyler Gisondo, Isabela Merced, Nathan Fillion, Edi Gathegi, and Sara Sampaio reprise their roles of Jimmy Olsen, Hawkgirl, Guy Gardner, Mister Terrific, and Eve Teschmacher.
Aaron Pierre and Lars Eidinger have also joined the cast, the former reprising John Stewart (Green Lantern) from HBO’s Lanterns, releasing in August 2026, and the latter essaying Brainiac. Additionally, The Hollywood Reporter recently reported Adria Arjona joined the ensemble in a mystery role, rumored to be Maxima. However, Gunn has not yet confirmed this.
