Man of Tomorrow: DCU Movie Casts Maxima Role

The Man of Tomorrow movie has found its Maxima.

DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures’ Man of Tomorrow is scheduled to be released in United States theaters next summer. Written and directed by James Gunn, the DCU movie will once again see Nicholas Hoult and David Corenswet reprise their respective roles as Lex Luthor and Clark Kent/Superman.

It’s been heavily rumored for the past several months that Maxima, a DC character created by Roger Stern and George Pérez who first appeared in 1989’s Action Comics #645, will appear in Man of Tomorrow. An article from The Hollywood Reporter that was published earlier this month stated that Adria Arjona, Eva De Dominici, Sydney Chandler, and Grace Van Patten were the four finalists for the role.

Who is playing Maxima in Man of Tomorrow?

It has now come to light that Arjona, known for starring in Hit Man, Andor, and more, will be playing Maxima in Man of Tomorrow. While The Hollywood Reporter‘s article says it is “unknown” whether Arjona has truly been cast as Maxima, both Variety and Deadline say that is indeed who she will be playing.

How big a role Maxima will have in the film remains to be seen. In the comics, Maxima is an alien queen who has an obsession with Superman, as she believes he’s the only person worthy enough to be her mate. Initially, Maxima was portrayed as a villainous character who tries to get in the way of Clark’s relationship with Lois Lane because of this obsession, though more recent comics have seen her reformed as she’s served as a member of the Justice League.

Man of Tomorrow will see Superman and Lex Luthor reluctantly have to work together to defeat a greater threat — presumably Brainiac, who is being played by Lars Eidinger in the film. Further plot details beyond that remain under wraps, though it is known that the movie will also star Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Guy Gardner as Nathan Fillion, and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific.

Man of Tomorrow arrives on July 9, 2027.
