Insidious: Out of the Further Trailer Review: Horror Movie Franchise Gets Needed Change
The first Insidious: Out of the Further trailer has been released, and with it comes the reveal that the iconic horror franchise seems to be getting some changes that could be for the better.
Sony Pictures’ Insidious: Out of the Further, also known as Insidious 6, will be released in United States theaters this August. Co-written and directed by Jacob Chase, the film will once again star Lin Shaye. The new film follows 2011’s Insidious, 2013’s Insidious: Chapter 2, 2015’s Insidious: Chapter 3, 2018’s Insidious: The Last Key, and 2023’s Insidious: The Red Door.
The world of Insidious has always been a scary one, particularly due to the chaotic nature of the demons that exist within it. The newest film, Out of the Further, seems to be taking this premise to the next level though, and introduces an entirely new ability to the franchise, one that will completely change how the demonic creatures in the movies interact.
Insidious: Out of the Further trailer review
The trailer for Insidious: Out of the Further reveals that the main character of the movie, Gemma, has an ability we’ve not yet seen in Insidious movies. While she’s able to visit The Further — the purgatory-esque state between worlds that demons inhabit — she’s also able to somehow bring what lives there back into the real world. This means that, for the first time, when demons appear in the real world, they won’t just be there in a dream-like or hallucinatory form.
The trailer highlights this in several scenes, including what looks to be a scene where a demon makes it out of The Further and into Gemma’s bedroom at night. The trailer also highlights what looks to be an entire horde of demons appearing on a street, although it’s unclear if they are fully demons or simply possessing people. Regardless, this time around, it seems like the Insidious franchise is going for an entirely new take on how to get scares.
While this might seem like a big departure for the franchise, it could end up being a good thing. The Insidious franchise has often been criticized for feeling too similar with each passing entry, especially when it comes to the scares. Now, with an almost zombie movie-esque premise featuring a real-world threat, the movie has upped its stakes, while retaining some of its creepier moments.

Fans seem to be mixed in their reactions to the new trailer. While many are excited at the possible changes, some already find the Insidious franchise too tedious and aren’t looking forward to the next movie no matter what.
