Eli Roth’s Ice Cream Man Trailer Shows Horror Movie Director at His Best
Horror fans may be in for a wild ride with Eli Roth’s Ice Cream Man.
Ice Cream Man is a new horror movie releasing in United States theaters on August 7, 2026. Not only is the film written and directed by Roth, but the Thanksgiving director also stars in the movie alongside Ari Millen as the titular character, Benjamin Byron Davis, Karen Cliche, Dylan Hawco, Sarah Abbott, Shiloh O’Reilly, Kiori Mirza Waldman, Charlie Zeltzer, and Charlie Storey.
The first teaser trailer for Ice Cream Man was just recently released. Judging by the footage, the film seems to be about a bunch of children who become unpredictably violent and dangerous after eating the sweet treats served to them by Millen’s character. In a very Weapons-like fashion, the teaser has several shots of young kids chasing and swinging melee weapons at adults.
The official synopsis for the movie reads, “Ice Cream Man follows an idyllic summer town descending into madness when an ice cream man serves kids sweet delights with horrifying results.”
Why should horror fans be excited for Ice Cream Man?
While the idea of a horror flick where all the kids are evil and trying to kill adults dates back many decades, the teaser trailer for Ice Cream Man still promises a rowdy good time at the movies. Roth is a filmmaker who is typically at his best not just when he’s playing in the horror genre — The Green Inferno and Knock Knock weren’t exactly masterpieces — but when he’s really leaning into the campiness of his stories.
Sure, Knock Knock may be an exception there because that was supposed to be a fun, campy ride (I think?), and it didn’t turn out well. Put that one aside, though. Thanksgiving worked and was a lot of fun because it was bloody, ridiculous, stupid, and a hoot to watch. Judging from the teaser trailer? Ice Cream Man kind of looks like it’s going to be bloody, ridiculous, stupid, and a hoot to watch.
I mean, it surely looks better than when Roth tries to do franchise stuff: Remember the 2018 Death Wish remake and, gulp, the 2024 Borderlands movie? Oof! The Ice Cream Teaser Trailer is short, so there’s still much we have to learn about the film. For the time being, though, the promise that we’re going to get something unhinged and ludicrous for Roth is reason enough to start getting excited.
