Chris Hemsworth begins filming on Kockroach after Crime 101’s streaming success

Chris Hemsworth has moved into production on his next crime thriller film, Kockroach. He shared an early update on X (formerly Twitter) as filming for the project gets underway.

The actor marked the first day of shooting in Australia by posting images from the set. In one image, Hemsworth appears in character wearing a tailored suit and sunglasses while another shows him seated on a chair labeled with the film’s title. He captioned the post, “Kockroach. Day 1.”

As per the official logline of the movie, “Kockroach is the story of a mysterious stranger who takes on New York’s criminal underworld, transforming himself into a larger-than-life crime boss in a city where power is everything.”

The film is directed by Matt Ross, with a screenplay by Jonathan Ames. Alongside Hemsworth, the cast includes Taron Egerton, Zazie Beetz, Alec Baldwin, and Rachel Sennott. A release date for the project has not yet been confirmed.

The start of filming follows the recent streaming performance of Crime 101, which has gained renewed attention on Prime Video after a modest theatrical run. The movie found a wider audience online, climbing streaming charts across multiple regions despite its earlier box office challenges.

According to Box Office Mojo, it earned around $73 million globally against a production budget of approximately $90 million, marking a sharp difference between its theatrical performance and later response on streaming platforms.

Hemsworth took to X to celebrate the streaming success of Crime 101 and thanked viewers for their support. He wrote, “Crime 101 is number 1 on @PrimeVideo !! Appreciate all the love and support for this film.”
