Andrew Davis directed The Fugitive from a script by Jeb Stuart and David Twohy, who developed it from a story by Twohy. The movie is a cinematic adaptation of the namesake ABC TV show, which aired for 4 seasons between 1963 and 1967.

The Fugitive revolves around Harrison Ford’s Dr. Kimble, who becomes the titular fugitive as a suspect in his wife’s murder. Following its release, the show found tremendous success. It currently has a 96% approval rating on the review-aggregating site Rotten Tomatoes, based on 84 reviews. Duane Byrge of The Hollywood Reporter wrote, “Call something a ‘real train wreck’ and it’s considered a put-down. Not in this fast-track, no-stops chase movie with a massive train-wreck scene that’s going to have audiences scrambling for cover.”

The movie also made $368 million at the global box office (via Box Office Mojo). Additionally, it received seven nominations at the 66th Academy Awards, including Best Picture. Jones won the Best Supporting Actor accolade for his performance, beating Leonardo DiCaprio (What’s Eating Gilbert Grape), Ralph Fiennes (Schindler’s List), John Malkovich (In the Line of Fire), and Pete Postlethwaite (In the Name of the Father).
