Resident Evil movie trailer released at CinemaCon

Sony gave audiences an early look at Resident Evil during its CinemaCon event in Las Vegas. Director Zach Cregger came on stage himself to present the footage, teasing his new version of the popular video game franchise. The movie is currently scheduled to hit theaters on September 18, 2026 (via The Hollywood Reporter).

The trailer centers around one intense and frightening night. Austin Abrams plays Bryan, a medical courier who suddenly ends up in a life-threatening situation. In one emotional moment, he calls someone close to him and admits he might not make it out alive. His voice continues over dark and unsettling scenes, showing bodies being dragged and blood dripping from above, while he desperately tries to escape.

Cregger shared that he has loved the games for years and wanted the movie to stay true to that feel. According to him, the story already works well on screen, calling it “naturally cinematic,” and he said fans will clearly see that influence. He also aimed to keep things fast and engaging, with no time jumps and a story that unfolds in one steady, intense stretch.

The Resident Evil franchise, developed by Capcom, has remained hugely popular in both gaming and movies for a long time. The earlier films, directed by Paul W. S. Anderson and featuring Milla Jovovich, brought in more than $1.2 billion globally. However, the 2021 reboot failed to impress, making this upcoming film a key fresh start for the franchise.

Speaking about the cast, the film features the likes of Paul Walter Hauser, Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, and Johnno Wilson. With a grounded story and a horror-first approach, this reboot aims to bring the franchise back to its roots.
