New Paddington 4 Update Is Great News

StudioCanal shared an exciting update on the next chapter of the beloved Paddington franchise during one of Hollywood’s biggest annual events. The production company revealed new details about the fourth film’s development that signal the marmalade-loving bear’s big-screen adventures are far from over.

StudioCanal has officially confirmed that a fourth Paddington film is currently in development.

CEO and Canal+ chief content officer Anna Marsh made the announcement during CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Monday. Marsh revealed that a team of comedy writers are attached to write the script for the upcoming sequel. The company did not share the names of the writers involved in the project at this time (via The Hollywood Reporter).

StudioCanal originally revealed Paddington 4 was in the works back in September 2024. Former CEO Françoise Guyonnet first disclosed the project at the Brand Licensing 2024 Europe convention. “We are also working on a new TV series and a new movie to come in 2027, ’28,” Guyonnet said at the time.

A new Paddington television series is also in development alongside the fourth film.

Paddington in Peru hit theaters in 2024 as the third title in the beloved franchise. The series originated with Paul King’s initial 2014 movie about author Michael Bond’s iconic literary character. Dougal Wilson directed the third film, marking his feature film directorial debut.

King, who directed the first two Paddington movies, contributed to the story for Paddington in Peru. He also served as an executive producer on the third installment before moving on to direct 2023’s Wonka.

The CinemaCon presentation also featured first looks at several other upcoming StudioCanal projects. Executive VP of global marketing and distribution, Hugh Spearing, joined Marsh for the presentation on Monday. CinemaCon is the annual event for exhibitors and Hollywood studios running from April 13 to 16 this year. The convention serves as the official event of Cinema United.
