Iconic Zombie Movie Returns to Theaters, Director’s New Horror Film Gets Teaser Trailer
Well Go USA has announced the U.S. theatrical rerelease date for Train to Busan, the iconic horror thriller from South Korean filmmaker Yeon Sang-ho. In addition, the distributor has also acquired the North American theatrical rights to Yeon’s newest star-studded zombie movie, titled Colony, which will first have its world premiere at the 2026 Cannes International Film Festival.
“No one delivers zombie films quite like Yeon Sang-ho. Train to Busan redefined the genre for audiences around the world, and we’re excited to bring it back to theaters in 4K for its 10th anniversary,” Well Go USA boss Doris Pfardrescher said in a statement. “With Colony, he takes that intensity and scale even further, delivering a bold and terrifying new vision for fans.”
When are the release dates for Train to Busan & Colony?
For the first time, Train to Busan is finally returning to U.S. theaters in 4K on August 14, 2026, in honor of its 10th anniversary. The 2016 blockbuster zombie movie starred Gong Yoo (Squid Game), Ma Dong-seok (Eternals), Choi Woo-sik (Parasite), and Kim Su-an (The Battleship Island). During its original theatrical run, the film grossed over $98 million at the global box office against a reported budget of around $8.5 million. It was also a critical success with a current approval rating of 95% on Rotten Tomatoes.
“It follows a group of passengers trapped in a train as they fight for survival during the outbreak of a deadly zombie virus,” reads the synopsis.
As for Colony, Well Go USA will also be releasing Yeon’s highly anticipated zombie movie in U.S theaters starting on August 28, 2026. The new horror will be led by Gianna Jun (My Sassy Girl) and Koo Kyo-hwan (Peninsula). Jun is no stranger to the zombie genre, as she previously starred in 2021’s special Kingdom episode Ashin of the North on Netflix. The distributor has also shared the first teaser trailer for Colony, featuring a glimpse at the film’s horrifying and suspense-filled sequences.

“Colony follows Professor Se-jeong as she is thrust into a terrifying hellscape when a mutating virus is unleashed during a biotech conference, forcing authorities to seal the facility to contain the outbreak,” reads the synopsis. “Unable to escape, Se-jeong and a group of survivors must fight to stay alive as the infected undergo horrific transformations and threaten to spread the virus.”
