Why the New James Bond Actor Report Should Excite 007 Fans

The new James Bond casting update could be great news for 007 fans, should it come to fruition.

Last year, Amazon MGM Studios made a deal with Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson to obtain full creative control of the James Bond franchise. Shortly after that deal was made, it was announced that Denis Villeneuve would be directing the next 007 movie.

Since then, there’s been nearly non-stop rumors about who might be playing the next Bond. Jacob Elordi, Callum Turner, Harris Dickinson, and Aaron-Taylor Johnson seem to be some of the more popular names floated around on the internet; although, given the secrecy of the project, it’s unclear if they are actually being considered or if this is all just speculation. No official casting announcement has been made at this time.

Then, last week, Variety reported that Louis Partridge is “in contention” for the 007 role. The outlet specifically said that “this is no more than speculation,” even though the article also states that “contention” is “beyond simply being put on a bookmaker’s list.”

Why should the new James Bond casting report excite 007 fans?

Whether or not Partridge is actually being considered for Bond remains to be seen. If this report is accurate, though, it could mean great news for Bond fans.

For one, Partridge is only 22 years old. If he does get the part, that’d make him the youngest Bond ever, second to George Lazenby, who was 29 when he filmed On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. Assuming that 007 fans like him, this means Partridge could be involved with the franchise for many years to come. This would then really give him time to grow into the role and allow fans to see all kinds of different sides of Bond — the first couple of entries could be about him being new to the spy game, and then we could see him become more bitter and jagged over time.

Additionally, Partridge is at the point in his career where he’s an up-and-coming actor and seems ready to really sink his teeth into a role like this. He’s good in the Enola Holmes movies and the House of Guiness show. A part like 007, though, could really be an opportunity for him to show the world his acting chops; meaning, that first Bond movie could really be a huge A Star Is Born kind of moment for him.

The next James Bond movie does not yet have a release date.
