Critically Bashed Netflix Movie Beats Dwayne Johnson’s Blockbuster on Streaming Charts
Netflix’s shark-themed movie has risen to the top of the platform’s streaming charts, overtaking a massive action-adventure film led by Dwayne Johnson. The change comes as the former attracts strong viewership even as reviews remain largely unfavorable.
Thrash tops Netflix movie charts
Thrash has climbed to the No. 1 spot on Netflix’s U.S. Top 10 list as of April 13, 2026, according to FlixPatrol. It has surpassed Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, which now holds the second position. The rankings saw a brief shift earlier, with Jumanji securing the top spot on April 10 before being replaced by Thrash. Both films are currently performing ahead of several well-known titles, including Beast, Anaconda, Black and Blue, and The Fifth Element.
Directed by Tommy Wirkola, Thrash is set in a coastal South Carolina town hit by a Category 5 hurricane. The story follows residents who fail to evacuate before the storm, only to find themselves trapped as floodwaters take over the area. Conditions then worsen, and homes are destroyed. The danger then escalates with sharks moving through the flooded streets.
The cast includes Phoebe Dynevor, Whitney Peak, Djimon Hounsou, Matt Nable, and Andrew Lees. Despite its strong streaming performance, the film has received largely negative reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes, it holds a critics’ score of 35% based on 31 reviews. Its audience rating stands at 29%.
RogerEbert.com reported, “Thrash is an aggressively stupid movie. Its worst sin isn’t its stupid characters doing stupid things; it’s that the whole thing feels remarkably lazy, failing to find any tension or even B-movie thrills.”
In comparison, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle follows a group of high school students who are transported into a video game world and must complete dangerous challenges to return home. The film stars Johnson along with Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan. It has received a far stronger response, with a 77% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes.
