Mark Wahlberg & Yahya Abdul-Mateen II Thriller Release Date Set by Big Movie Studio

A major Hollywood studio locked in a release date for a highly anticipated crime thriller starring two of the industry’s biggest names. The Elegance Bratton-directed project secured its theatrical window after a significant distribution deal closed ahead of a key industry event.

Paramount sets 2026 release date for By Any Means

Paramount has acquired all U.S. distribution rights to the Elegance Bratton-directed crime thriller By Any Means, Deadline reports. The studio sets a Labor Day weekend theatrical release date of September 4, 2026. Mark Wahlberg and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II lead the cast of the historical thriller.

The film follows events loosely based on true incidents in 1966 Mississippi. A hardened mafia hitman and a young Black FBI agent form a volatile partnership. They track down those responsible for the killing of civil rights leaders during the manhunt thriller.

Sascha Penn wrote the script for the feature film. Bratton directs the project, building on his previous work with the marine drama The Inspection. WME Independent and CAA Media Finance handled the sale of the film to Paramount.

Bratton spoke about his vision for the story in a statement. “This is a story about unlikely alliances forged under impossible circumstances,” he said. He added that he “wanted to explore what it means to confront violence not just as an act, but as a system.”

Nicole Beharie, David Strathairn, Giancarlo Esposito, Josh Lucas and Ethan Embry also star in the film. Alex Lebovici produces for Hammerstone Studios with Chester Algernal Gordon and Bratton for Freedom Principle. Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee produce through Thunder Road Films. Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson produce under their Municipal banner.

North.five.six handles international sales for By Any Means. The film opens against the David Leitch-directed How to Rob a Bank from Amazon MGM Studios. Paramount had already placed a hold on the September 4 date before completing the deal.
