Avengers: Doomsday MCU Movie Box Office Predictions Get Explosive Update

It may not be coming out for another eight months, but Avengers: Doomsday is already looking to score big at the box office.

Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday is currently in post-production. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, the movie is scheduled to be released in United States theaters in December. The sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, follows in 2027.

So far, Marvel has released four Avengers: Doomsday teaser trailers. The first teaser revealed that Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers is officially returning to the MCU, while the second focused on Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and the third on a handful of X-Men characters. The fourth and final trailer then put the spotlight on Letitia Wright’s Shuri/Black Panther, Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s Ben Grimm/The Thing, and more.

What is the Avengers: Doomsday box office update?

While it’ll likely be some time yet before specific prediction numbers for Avengers: Doomsday’s opening weekend at the box office start emerging, a new report for The Hollywood Reporter suggests that the film may be a bigger hit than people are anticipating. The outlet says that, according to its sources, Doomsday is currently “exploding” on long-lead tracking.

Some were worried that Avengers: Doomsday could underperform at the box office, given that Marvel has had some box office duds since the release of Avengers: Endgame. Endgame made $357.1 million in the United States and Canada during its opening weekend, beating Avengers: Infinity War by almost $100 million, as that opened to $258.2 million domestically. Age of Ultron, meanwhile, scored $191.3 million in its opening weekend, while the 2012 Avengers movie came in at $207 million.

The big question that remains is whether Avengers: Doomsday or Dune: Part Three will wind up switching release dates, as both movies are currently supposed to come out on the same day. There have been some rumors floating around that one of the films might move; however, as for now, both of them are supposed to arrive on December 17, 2026.

Avengers: Secret Wars is then dated for December 18, 2027.
