Mark Wahlberg & Gambit Actor’s Most Underrated Action Movie Is Leaving Netflix

Lone Survivor, an underrated action movie headlined by Mark Wahlberg, is leaving Netflix soon as the streaming platform prepares to update its content library for next month. The war drama premiered in theaters 13 years ago and drew primarily positive reviews for its performances, narrative, and visuals. However, it garnered some criticism for prioritizing action over character development.

Lone Survivor to leave Netflix in May

Mark Wahlberg’s 2013 war movie is set to exit the streaming platform early next month. Accordingly, fans have three weeks to check it out.

As per What’s on Netflix, Lone Survivor is leaving Netflix’s content library on May 1, 2026.

The film initially premiered in the United States on December 25, 2013, before enjoying a wider North American release on January 10, 2014.

Based on retired United States Navy SEAL officer Marcus Luttrell and Patrick Robinson’s eponymous 2007 nonfiction book, the film is set against the backdrop of the war in Afghanistan in 2005. It chronicles the unsuccessful counterinsurgency operation undertaken by the US Navy SEALS, Red Wings.

The mission sees a four-man SEAL reconnaissance and surveillance team — Hospital Corpsman First Class Luttrell, Lieutenant Michael P. “Murph” Murphy, Gunner’s mate Second Class Danny Dietz, and Sonar technician Second Class Matthew “Axe” Axelson — tasked with tracking down and killing Taliban leader, Ahmad Shah.

Lone Survivor holds a 75% “certified fresh” critical rating, based on 224 reviews, and a robust 87% audience score from over 100,000 ratings on Rotten Tomatoes.

Meanwhile, on Metacritic, the film has an 81 Metascore and a 7.4 user score. The former denotes “generally favorable” reception, while the latter indicates “mixed or average” views.

Peter Berg directed the movie from his screenplay, also serving as a co-producer. Luttrell, with whom Berg discussed making the film, shot on location in New Mexico via digital cinematography. Other retired NAVY SEAL veterans provided technical consultation.

Wahlberg stars as Luttrell, leading a cast that includes Taylor Kitsch, Emile Hirsch, and Ben Foster. Rounding out the ensemble are Yousuf Azami, Ali Suliman, Eric Bana, Alexander Ludwig, Rich Ting, Dan Bilzerian, Jerry Ferrara, Rick Vargas, and Scott Elrod.
