Idris Elba’s Brutal Action Movie Beats Jack Black’s $962M Hit on Netflix 

Beast, which was released in theaters on August 19, 2022, has climbed to the top of Netflix’s U.S. Top 10. It has overtaken Dwayne Johnson‘s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, which debuted theatrically on December 20, 2017 and went on to earn $962 million worldwide. The latest streaming data places Idris Elba’s survival thriller ahead of the blockbuster adventure, marking a notable shift in streaming charts.

Beast tops the Netflix movie charts

Beast has moved ahead of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle on Netflix’s United States charts, despite the latter’s strong theatrical performance.

According to FlixPatrol data, Beast has secured the top position on Top 10 movies on Netflix in the United States on April 9, 2026. Meanwhile, Jumanji followed in second place. Both movies ranked above several other widely streamed films, including Madagascar, Black and Blue, Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted, and Anaconda. 

Directed by Baltasar Kormákur and written by Ryan Engle, Beast centers on a contained survival narrative set in South Africa. Idris Elba plays Dr. Nate Samuels, a recently widowed father who travels with his daughters to a wildlife reserve in an effort to reconnect following a personal loss. However, their trip soon turns into struggle for a survival when a rogue lion begins targeting them. 

Other cast members include Iyana Halley as Meredith Samuels, Leah Sava Jeffries as Norah Samuels, Sharlto Copley as Martin Battles, and Naledi Mogadime as Amahle among others. The film received a 68 percent critics score and a 77 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes

In contrast, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, directed by Jake Kasdan, was a major commercial success. The film follows four high school students who are transported into a video game world, where they take on avatar forms. They must must complete a series of challenges in order to return home. 

Its ensemble cast features Dwayne Johnson as Spencer Gilpin, Kevin Hart as Anthony “Fridge” Johnson, Jack Black as Bethany Walker, Karen Gillan as Martha Kaply, and Rhys Darby as Nigel Billingsley. The film received stronger scores, with 77 percent from critics and 87 percent from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.
