Jasveen Sangha pleaded guilty to five federal charges, including distributing ketamine resulting in death. Prosecutors said she ran a large drug operation out of her North Hollywood home, supplying substances to high-profile clients.
Matthew Perry, widely recognized for his role as Chandler Bing on Friends, was found dead in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home in October 2023. Investigators later confirmed that he died due to the acute effects of ketamine. The drug, a dissociative anaesthetic with hallucinogenic effects, is meant to be used only under medical supervision. In this case, officials said it was obtained and administered outside those boundaries, with fatal consequences.
Jasveen Sangha has now been sentenced to 15 years in prison. In court, prosecutors described her home as a “drug-selling emporium,” saying she continued her operation despite knowing the risks involved. The hearing included emotional statements from Perry’s family. His stepmother, Debbie Perry, asked the court to hand down the toughest possible sentence, calling the damage caused “irreversible.”
“You caused this… You who has [have] talent for business enough to make money chose the one way that hurts people,” she said. “Please give this heartless woman the maximum prison sentence so she won’t be able to hurt other families like ours.” Sangha became visibly emotional during the proceedings. When given a chance to speak, she admitted her actions had affected people’s lives and said she felt ashamed.
Sangha is one of five people charged in connection with Matthew Perry’s death. Others involved, including medical professionals and associates, have also pleaded guilty or been sentenced. According to officials, the group exploited Perry’s long struggle with addiction for profit (via BBC).
