Tom Holland talks about the advice he got from Matt Damon
Tom Holland discussed his upcoming projects in an interview with GQ. He spoke about working with Matt Damon, and how their interaction developed over time on set. Holland plays Telemachus in the film. He appears as the son of Damon’s Odysseus, and that dynamic carried into production.
The two spent long hours together, and that allowed him to observe closely. He described Damon’s work ethic in clear terms, and the details remained consistent. Holland said, “I mean, we spent so much time together, and what I’m really grateful for with Matt is that he is exactly what I would have hoped he would be like. He was a leader.”
He continued, “This was a very tough movie and no one worked harder than Matt did. And he always came to set with a smile on his face and he was gracious and he was so kind to the crew. And I think he really set the tone for everyone as to how we were going to collectively make this film.”
He also addressed the advice he received, “So there are words of wisdom that he’s given me that I’ll keep to myself, but there’s a lot that I learned from him from just being a spectator on set and watching the legend that is Matt Damon work.”
The film itself builds on a large-scale production, and the scope is noticeable. Christopher Nolan directs The Odyssey, based on Homer’s ancient Greek epic poem. The cast includes several major names, and the lineup stays extensive.
Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Elliot Page, Mia Goth, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, and Robert Pattinson also appear in the film. The movie is scheduled to be released on July 17, 2026.
