Cameron Diaz Starring in Sequel to 80s Cult Comedy Movie

Cameron Diaz will be starring in a sequel to a beloved comedy movie from the 1980s.

Diaz is known for voicing Princess Fiona in the Shrek franchise and playing Natalie Cook in the Charlie’s Angels movies, while she’s also starred in films such as 1998’s There’s Something About Mary, 1999’s Being John Malkovich, 2002’s Gangs of New York, 2006’s The Holiday, 2010’s Knight and Day, and many more. 

After taking a break from acting for a while, Diaz recently led 2025’s Back in Action with Jamie Foxx. She’s now got a handful of films that she’ll soon be seen in, including Jonah Hill’s Outcome, an action flick titled Bad Day, and more.

What comedy sequel movie is Cameron Diaz starring in?

Per Deadline, it has now been announced that Diaz will star in a sequel to Troop Beverly Hills. The project is being developed by TriStar Pictures.

Released in 1989, Troop Beverly Hills is a comedy movie about a Beverly Hills woman who becomes the inexperienced but lovable leader of her daughter’s scouting troop. The film is directed by Jeff Kanew and stars Shelly Long, Craig T. Nelson, Betty Thomas, Mary Gross, and more.

A description of the original film reads, “With her marriage breaking up, Beverly Hills housewife Phyllis Nefler (Long) boosts her self-esteem by leading a local troop of Wilderness Girls. Although Phyllis’ version of roughing it is spending the night at the Beverly Hills Hotel, that suits her privileged troop members just fine. Unfortunately, when Phyllis falls afoul of a rival leader, the girls are threatened with having their group dissolved — unless they can prove their wilderness skills at the annual jamboree.”

While plot details for the sequel remain under wraps at this time, it is known that the new movie is being written and directed by Clea DuVall, the But I’m a Cheerleader star who made their feature film directorial debut in 2016 with The Intervention before then making 2020’s Happiest Season.

A release date for the Troop Beverly Hills sequel has not yet been announced.
