James Gunn Reveals How Much of Man of Tomorrow Is Cast After Maxima Report

DC fans who are really hoping to see Wonder Woman in Man of Tomorrow may be in for disappointment.

DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures will release Man of Tomorrow in United States theaters next year. Written and directed by James Gunn, the DCU movie serves as a follow-up to 2025’s Superman. David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult will reprise their roles as Clark Kent/Superman and Lex Luthor.

What is the casting update on Man of Tomorrow?

On Threads, Gunn was asked if all of the roles in Man of Tomorrow had been cast yet, or if there were still some that are missing. Gunn confirmed that there is only one spot left to be filled in the Man of Tomorrow cast before they’re finished with that process.

When asked when he was going to announce the casting for Man of Tomorrow, Gunn said, “I already have for every major role.”

This means that we seemingly know all of the major players who will be showing up in Man of Tomorrow, as the cast also includes Lars Eidinger as Brainiac, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart.

If certain online rumors and outlets are to be believed, the final role yet to be cast in Man of Tomorrow is Maxima. Deadline initially reported that Adria Arjona, Ella Purnell, and Marisa Abela had already screen-tested for the role; however, that article was edited after Gunn quickly called them out for “shoddy & incorrect” reporting.

Deadline’s article now says only Arjona has screen tested for the Maxima role. Gunn, though, isn’t saying whether or not the character is actually in the movie. Rather, he said he is “absolutely not confirming” that Maxima will be in Man of Tomorrow at this time.

Whether it’s Maxima or someone else, it sounds like the Man of Tomorrow cast is almost finished. There’s the slight possibility that the final role to be cast could be for Wonder Woman/Diana Prince, as some fans have been hoping she’ll show up in the movie; however, given how big a role Wonder Woman will likely have in the DCU going forward, it seems unlikely that they’d wait this long to cast such a big part.

Man of Tomorrow arrives on July 9, 2026.
