Man of Tomorrow: Fallout’s Ella Purnell & 2 More Being Considered for DCU Maxima Role
Man of Tomorrow has received a huge casting update.
DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures’ Man of Tomorrow is currently scheduled to arrive in United States theaters in 2027. A follow-up to 2025’s Superman, the DCU film is once again being written and directed by James Gunn. David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult will reprise their respective roles as Clark Kent/Superman and Lex Luthor.
What is the Man of Tomorrow update?
There’s been talk that Maxima, a DC character created by Roger Stern and George Pérez who first appeared in 1989’s Action Comics #645, will show up in Man of Tomorrow. According to a new report from Deadline, the character is indeed part of the movie, and three names have emerged regarding who might be playing her.
The outlet reports that Marisa Abela, Adria Arjona, and Ella Purnell have already begun screen testing for the Maxima role in Man of Tomorrow.
Abela is known for playing Yasmin Kara-Hanani in HBO’s Industry show and for playing Amy Winehouse in the 2024 Back to Black biopic. She’s also appeared in movies like 2022’s Rogue Agent, 2023’s Barbie, and 2025’s Black Bag, and she’s attached to star in the Highlander remake with Henry Cavill.
Arjona starred as Bix Caleen on the Andor Star Wars show. She’s been in movies such as 2016’s The Belko Experiment, 2018’s Pacific Rim Uprising, 2019’s 6 Underground, 2022’s Morbius, 2024’s Hit Man, 2024’s Blink Twice, and 2025’s Splitsville.
Purnell is recognized for playing Lucy MacLean in Fallout and Jackie Taylor in the first season of Yellowjackets. She also stars in the show Sweetpea, while her filmography additionally includes 2013’s Kick-Ass 2, 2016’s Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, 2021’s Army of the Dead, and more.
With a cast that further includes Lars Eidinger as Brainiac, Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, and Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Man of Tomorrow is dated for July 9, 2027.
