Jason Isaacs’ Mass coming to Netflix in April

The 2021 film will become available for streaming on the streaming giant later this month.

As per What’s on Netflix, Mass arrives in Netflix’s content library on Friday, April 24, 2026.

The film’s storyline centers on Jay and Gail Perry, whose son Evan was one of the victims of a school shooting. Following the tragic incident, the couple has intense interactions with Richard and Linda. They are the parents of Hayden, the boy who carried out the shooting and later died by suicide. Six years later, Jay and Gail agree to meet Richard and Linda again in the hope of finding some sense of closure.

The majority of the movie takes place within a room, focusing on the interaction of two grieving families. Powerful performances from Jason Isaacs as Jay, Martha Plimpton as Gail, Reed Birney as Richard, and Ann Dowd as Linda support the intense narrative.

Marking his directorial debut, Fran Kranz co-produced, wrote, and helmed Mass. He is popular for his on-screen appearances in Dollhouse, The Cabin in the Woods, Elementary, The Dark Tower, and more.

In a 2022 interview with SAGIndie, Kranz shared that he got the idea for the film while researching mass shootings in America. “As soon as I read about these meetings, it reminded me of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in South Africa, which was a huge inspiration,” he explained.

The independent production company Bleecker Street handled distribution for Mass. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 30, 2021, and later arrived in theaters in October.

At the time of its release, the film garnered mostly positive reviews across the board. It has also continued to hold an impressive 95% Tomatometer rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 200 critic reviews. Peter Bradshaw of The Guardian wrote, “Mass is a wonderfully acted, if claustrophobic, ordeal of emotional pain.”

Meanwhile, Mass also has a strong 90% Popcornmeter rating. Furthermore, the film received recognition at several award events, including the BAFTA Awards and Critics’ Choice Awards.
