Star Wars Legend Backs New Lucasfilm Boss After Kathleen Kennedy Exit

Star Wars veteran Mark Hamill has weighed in on the recent leadership transition at Lucasfilm. The actor has offered backing to Dave Filoni following the departure of longtime president Kathleen Kennedy. As the studio moves into a new phase, he pointed to Filoni’s experience with the franchise.

Mark Hamill ‘can’t think of better hands’ for Star Wars than Dave Filoni

According to USA Today, Mark Hamill has voiced strong support for Dave Filoni as the creative figure now guiding Star Wars. The actor said that he “can’t think of better hands” to oversee the franchise. His remarks come at a time of transition for Lucasfilm, following the departure of longtime president Kathleen Kennedy, who stepped down in January after 14 years in the role.

Filoni has since taken on the position of president and chief creative officer, working alongside co-president Lynwen Brennan. As a key contributor to the franchise, he previously collaborated closely with George Lucas on Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Reflecting on that background, Hamill said, “George was a mentor to Dave, so he knows George’s sensibility,” adding that Filoni understands the series “so well.”

Hamill also referred to Filoni’s work on recent live-action productions such as The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, both of which included a digitally recreated younger version of Luke Skywalker. He noted that he has been impressed by the “great stuff” Filoni has contributed to these projects

The comments come as Star Wars moves toward its next theatrical release, The Mandalorian and Grogu, which is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on May 22, marking the franchise’s first new film in nearly seven years.

Meanwhile, Hamill is currently collaborating with Lego to promote a new line of Star Wars sets that incorporate the company’s SMART Play technology. He most recently reprised Luke Skywalker in voice form in Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy.
