Jason Statham’s Underrated R-Rated Actioner From 2013 To Leave Netflix

A 2013 Jason Statham-led film will not be part of Netflix’s expansive library from next month. The R-rated film follows a former DEA agent protecting his family from a local drug gang after his daughter’s school fight triggers a series of dangerous events.

Jason Statham’s Homefront is leaving Netflix next month

Homefront will exit Netflix on Friday, May 1, 2026.

The story is based on Chuck Logan’s 2005 novel of the same name. Gary Fleder directed the film with a screenplay by Sylvester Stallone. Stallone reportedly intended the film to be a sequel to his iconic Rambo film series. But for undisclosed reasons, the script was shelved (via Collider). Years later, the Rocky star returned to write the screenplay and remained as one of the producers for the 2013 film.

Homefront centers on Phil Broker, a former DEA agent, who relocates to Rayville, Louisiana, with his daughter, Maddy. After the young girl stands up to and defeats a bully named Teddy, his mother, Cassie, takes the situation to the school authorities. When things don’t go as she had hoped for, Cassie turns to her drug trafficking brother, Gator, to scare the Broker family. However, when Gator arrives at Paul’s home, he discovers that Paul was a former DEA agent and sees an opportunity to expand his operations.

The film stars Jason Statham as Phil, James Franco as Gator, Winona Ryder as Sheryl, Kate Bosworth as Cassie, Izabela Vidovic as Maddy, Frank Grillo as Cyrus, and Clancy Brown as Keith.

Open Road Films distributed the film, releasing Homefront in the United States on November 27, 2013. Upon release, it struggled to connect with critics, who praised Statham’s performance but ultimately criticized the film’s weak script. It holds a 42% critic approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while the audience gave it a higher 61% rating.

Despite a generally positive reception among moviegoers, the film could only earn $48.5 million globally. It had a reported budget of $22 million, according to Box Office Mojo.
