Backrooms Runtime Revealed for A24 Horror Movie Starring Chiwetel Ejiofor
The runtime for Backrooms has been revealed for A24‘s newest supernatural sci-fi horror movie. Starring Academy Award nominees Chiwetel Ejiofor (2012, Doctor Strange) and Renate Reinsve (Sentimental Value), the film is slated to arrive in theaters on May 29, 2026, pitting it directly against another highly anticipated horror movie, Passenger, at the box office.
“A strange doorway appears in the basement of a furniture showroom,” reads the logline for the movie.

According to Bloody Disgusting, Backrooms will have a total runtime of 105 minutes, or approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes. The film is directed by up-and-coming filmmaker Kane Parsons in his feature directorial debut. It is based on his anthology web series, which has already garnered nearly 100 million combined views on YouTube.
The ensemble cast also includes Mark Duplass (The Morning Show), Finn Bennett (A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms), Lukita Maxwell (Shrinking), Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap), Chelah Horsdal (Hell on Wheels), Toby Hargrave (Superman & Lois), and more. The supernatural movie’s screenplay was written by Will Soodik. Kori Adelson, Dan Levine, and The Conjuring creator James Wan are also serving as producers, along with Stranger Things producers Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen.
Backrooms is executive-produced by Michael Clear, Jenni DePiero, Alayna Glasthal, Roberto Patino, Jesse Savath, Judson Scott, and Chris White. The creative team consists of cinematographer Jeremy Cox, production designer Danny Vermette, set decorator Trevor Johnston, and costume designer Mica Kayde, with Parsons and Edo Van Breemen composing the score. It is a production by A24, Chernin Entertainment, Atomic Monster, and 21 Laps.
