No Hard Feelings to stream on HBO Max in April
No Hard Feelings arrives on HBO Max on Tuesday, April 21, 2026.
It centers on Maddie Barker, a 32-year-old woman on the verge of bankruptcy, who accepts a strange Craigslist job listing from wealthy parents. They want her to date their shy, awkward 19-year-old son, Percy, before he leaves for college, hoping it will boost his confidence and social skills. Her initial attempts to seduce Percy lead to hilarious misunderstandings, but eventually their connection becomes something more meaningful.
Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence headlines the film as Maddie. She is joined by Andrew Barth Feldman as Percy, Matthew Broderick as Laird, Laura Benanti as Allison, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Gary, and Hasan Minhaj as Doug, among others, in prominent roles.
Gene Stupnitsky directed No Hard Feelings and co-wrote it with John Phillips. Interestingly, producers Marc Provissiero and Naomi Odenkirk reportedly got the idea for the film from a real-life Craigslist post. When they sent the listing to Stupnitsky, he found it funny and wondered about the woman who would answer such listings. “And I thought, ‘Oh, that’ll be a great role for my friend Jennifer Lawrence,’” he told Entertainment Weekly.
Although Stupnitsky and Lawrence hadn’t collaborated on any project previously, they were reportedly long-time friends. He said that he pitched the idea to the actress over dinner, who immediately took a liking to it.
When the script was ready, the Hunger Games actress not only agreed to star in the film but also to co-produce it through her production company, Excellent Cadaver. The script later went into a bidding war among Hollywood’s top studios. In 2021, Sony outbid studios like Apple and Netflix to acquire the film’s rights (via The Hollywood Reporter).
Sony Pictures Releasing released the film on June 23, 2023. Both critics and the audience gave it a favorable rating. Consequently, it has a 71% critic score and 86% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Commercially, the film made roughly $87.2 million from global markets (via Box Office Mojo).
