Black Panther 3 Update Is Good News for MCU Movie Franchise
Black Panther 3 has received an exciting update.
Marvel Studios kicked off its Black Panther franchise in 2018; although, Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa character did appear in Captain America: Civil War, which was released two years earlier in 2016, before that. Black Panther was followed by 2022’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which saw Letitia Wright’s Shuri take on the mantle of Black Panther after Boseman passed away in 2020. Both Black Panther movies were directed by Ryan Coogler.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever introduced Dominique Thorne’s Riri Williams/Ironheart into the MCU; she then got a Disney+ spin-off show that premiered last year. Additionally, there was an Eyes of Wakanda animated anthology series that also premiered on Disney+ last year.
What is the Black Panther 3 update?
While Marvel has yet to officially give Black Panther 3 a release date, Coogler has said that the sequel is happening and that he intends for it to be his next movie. Not much is known about the plot at this time, though Coogler has also said that the film may have a role for Denzel Washington.
Now, per Nexus Point News Editor-in-Chief Demet Koc, Marvel “just filed ‘Fragment Productions LLC,’ which is the production company for Black Panther 3.”
This means that development of the project is taking big steps forward, and it might not be too much longer before Black Panther 3 sets a production start date. What comes after Avengers: Secret Wars, which arrives in 2027, is only speculation at this time; however, there are a handful of untitled MCU movies that have release dates in 2028. If Black Panther 3 starts filming sometime this year, it could take one of those spots.
This also means that it could be one of the first, if not the first, MCU movie to be released after Avengers: Secret Wars — meaning, it’d kick off a whole new saga for the MCU. With Phase 7 expected to revolve around X-Men, there could potentially be some mutant characters who show up in Black Panther 3.
