One of the most tearful moments in MCU history may still have more story to tell. A new report suggests Avengers: Doomsday will reach back into Avengers: Endgame’s emotional playbook, and it may be bringing some old friends along for the ride.
Tony’s Endgame funeral scene could be seen again in Avengers: Doomsday
Avengers: Doomsday may revisit Tony Stark’s funeral scene from Avengers: Endgame. Industry insider James Mack first reported the development on X, writing: “Does that mean they filmed Tony’s funeral scenes from Endgame for Avengers Doomsday, and we’ll see some characters from that moment again?”
The Marvelous Geek subsequently amplified the report on X, citing Mack as the original source, noting the possibility of seeing some of those characters return in the film.
According to Mack, Tony’s funeral scene will return in Doomsday, bringing back some characters from that moment. Whether the Russos will pull deleted scenes from Endgame or shoot additional funeral footage for Doomsday remains unclear. Treat the report as a rumor, as Marvel has not confirmed it.
The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision newsletter previously noted that Doomsday would see a “healthy” amount of additional photography, expected to take place in early 2026. Principal photography on the film wrapped on September 19, 2025.
Analysts suggest the funeral footage could serve as a narrative anchor connecting Tony Stark’s legacy to Victor von Doom’s arrival. Reports indicate Marvel may add new layers to the original scene without breaking continuity, showing unseen interactions during the Endgame funeral.
Robert Downey Jr. plays Victor von Doom in Doomsday, after previously portraying Tony Stark across the MCU’s Infinity Saga. Joe Russo described Doom as “three-dimensional and one of the most complex comic book characters,” adding that Downey was “the one person who could take on the role.”
Anthony and Joe Russo direct Avengers: Doomsday, with Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely writing the script. The film features an ensemble cast including Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, and the returning X-Men lineup, and hits theaters on December 18, 2026, as part of Phase Six of the MCU.
