Dwayne Johnson’s $962 Million Action Movie Sequel Lands on Netflix Today
One of Sony Pictures’ star-studded action-adventure movies starring Dwayne Johnson has finally found a new streaming home. During its theatrical run, the film was an instant box office hit, grossing over $962 million worldwide.
What Dwayne Johnson movie is now available on Netflix?
As of today, Johnson’s 2017 movie Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is now officially available to stream on Netflix. It served as a direct sequel to Robin Williams’ iconic 1995 film of the same name. Besides Johnson, the ensemble cast also included Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Karen Gillan, Alex Wolff, Ser’Darius Blain, Madison Iseman, Morgan Turner, Rhys Darby, Bobby Cannavale, and Nick Jonas. In addition to its commercial success, the film also received positive reviews from critics. It has maintained a Certified Fresh score of 77% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 235 reviews.
“Four high school kids discover an old video game console and are drawn into the game’s jungle setting, literally becoming the adult avatars they chose. What they discover is that you don’t just play Jumanji — you must survive it,” reads the official synopsis. “To beat the game and return to the real world, they’ll have to go on the most dangerous adventure of their lives, discover what Alan Parrish left 20 years ago, and change the way they think about themselves — or they’ll be stuck in the game forever.”
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was directed by Jake Kasdan, with Chris McKenna, Erik Sommers, Scott Rosenberg, and Jeff Pinkner writing the screenplay based on Chris Van Allsburg’s 1981 children’s book of the same name. Due to its massive success, it was followed by another sequel, Jumanji: The Next Level, in 2019. Even though it wasn’t able to surpass the 2017 film, it was still well-received by both critics and moviegoers. The main cast will once again reunite in the highly anticipated Jumanji 3 movie, which will premiere later this year on December 25.
