Ryan Gosling Exits Anticipated Sci-Fi Movie, Reason Revealed
Academy Award nominee Ryan Gosling will no longer lead the cast of the highly anticipated sci-fi movie from Everything Everywhere All at Once directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert. This comes over a week after Gosling’s involvement in the secret project was first reported.
Why did Ryan Gosling exit Daniels’ sci-fi movie?
According to Deadline, negotiations for Gosling’s casting in The Daniels’ next feature directorial project fell through due to scheduling conflicts with its target filming start date. Production is expected to begin in Los Angeles sometime this summer, which was something that the studio couldn’t move. At the moment, plot details for the untitled film are still under wraps. Despite the acclaimed actor’s exit, the film is still set to debut on November 19, 2027.
The secret sci-fi film will be directed by The Daniels, who are also producing alongside Jonathan Wang. It is a part of the acclaimed filmmaking duo’s five-year exclusive partnership with Universal Pictures, which they signed in 2022. On behalf of the studio, executives Sara Scott and Jacqueline Garell will oversee the project. A recent report suggested that the studio has reportedly allotted a $150 million budget for the film, which serves as the Daniels’ most expensive movie after 2022’s Everything Everywhere All at Once.
The Barbie actor most recently starred in Amazon MGM Studios’ latest sci-fi movie, Project Hail Mary, which is currently enjoying a successful theatrical run at the box office. So far, it has already grossed over $334 million worldwide. Gosling is also slated to lead his very own Star Wars movie, which just wrapped filming last year. Star Wars: Starfighter will arrive in theaters on May 28, 2027.
