Milly Alcock revealed she didn’t reach out to past Supergirl actors like Sasha Calle or Melissa Benoist while preparing for the role. For her, it was about staying grounded and focused on her own version of the character. “They’re just people living their lives,” she said. “It’s not like we have this blood bond.” Instead of seeking advice, Alcock chose to build her performance independently, trusting her instincts (via Vanity Fair).

That mindset extends beyond just this role. Alcock also shared that she avoids leaning too heavily on co-stars for direction. While working alongside Julianne Moore on Sirens, she didn’t treat the experience like a masterclass.

“You have to respect that they don’t owe you that,” she explained, showing a clear sense of professional boundaries. Taking on Supergirl hasn’t been easy. Alcock admitted the pressure is real, especially with fan expectations. “Of course I’m scared,” she said. “Of course, I want people to like me and the movie. But ultimately, it’s out of my control.”

Before landing this part, Alcock gained attention through House of the Dragon, where she played a young Rhaenyra Targaryen. That breakout role helped her move into bigger projects, including Netflix’s Sirens. Now, she’s leading a major studio film under Warner Bros., marking a huge step in her career. Before this, Alcock used to “cold-call” talent agents. “We struggled financially, so it really pushed me to be assertive,” Alcock says. “My mother instilled this blind confidence within me: ‘If those idiots can do it, why can’t you?'”

Her version of Kara Zor-El will focus on a more personal journey. Alcock described the character as someone overwhelmed by responsibility, trying to figure herself out rather than simply saving the world. That angle adds depth to both her character and her superhero journey.
