Classic Tom Cruise Action Movie Arrives on Prime Video Today

Prime Video subscribers can now finally watch one of Paramount Pictures’ iconic action movies from the 1980s. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, the Tom Cruise-led movie still became the highest-grossing film during the year of its theatrical release. It grossed over $350 million worldwide against a reported budget of around $13-15 million.

Beginning today, Cruise’s 1986 action drama movie Top Gun is now available to stream on Prime Video. The movie also starred the late Val Kilmer as Iceman, Anthony Edwards as Goose, Meg Ryan as Carole, Kelly McGillis as Charlie, Tom Skerritt as Viper, Tim Robbins as Merlin, Michael Ironside as Jester, John Stockwell as Cougar, Rick Rossovich as Slider, Clarence Gilyard as Sundown, and more. It was directed by Tony Scott, with Jim Cash and Jack Epps Jr. writing the screenplay. It currently holds a Popcornmeter score of 83% on Rotten Tomatoes.

In 2022, Cruise reprised his memorable role as Maverick in the blockbuster sequel Top Gun: Maverick, which also starred Glen Powell and Miles Teller. It was both a critical and commercial success, with an approval rating of 96%. The sequel grossed over $1.4 billion at the worldwide box office, making it Cruise’s highest-grossing movie to date. Because of this, Paramount Pictures is currently developing the franchise’s third installment.
