Absolute Batman board game coming soon
Batman is expanding beyond comics with a new board game adaptation based on the Absolute Batman storyline.
The project will form part of Season 4 of Batman: Gotham City Chronicles. It is scheduled to launch through a Gamefound crowdfunding campaign later this year. As per Game Found, “Batman™: Gotham City Chronicles is an asymmetric miniatures board game for 2 to 4 players, where Heroes and Villains clash in handcrafted scenarios across Gotham City.”
The expansion will introduce the Absolute Universe into the game. It will bring the reworked versions of Gotham City and its characters into the miniatures format. Early previews indicate that the character lineup will include Alfred Pennyworth and Black Mask, along with multiple enemy units related to Black Mask’s faction.
A central feature of the release is its emphasis on vertical gameplay, allowing scenarios to unfold across multiple levels. Players will be able to position characters on rooftops, inside buildings, and at street level within the same encounter.
The expansion will require the base Batman: Gotham City Chronicles game, which will be made available again as part of the campaign. Alongside the standard competitive format, the new content will also support solo and cooperative modes, offering multiple ways to play.
Additionally, Season 4 will include reprints of the core game and previous expansions, expanding access for new players. The adaptation draws from the ongoing Absolute Batman comic run led by Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta. It presents a revised interpretation of Gotham and its characters. Lastly, additional details about the expansion are expected to be revealed closer to the campaign launch.
