The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Is Best Enjoyed Knowing This Beforehand

With The Super Mario Galaxy Movie having now been released, there are a few things that fans of the Nintendo franchise might want to know about the movie before stepping into the theater.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie comes from Illumination, Nintendo, and Universal Pictures. Directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, the sequel to 2023’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie is based on the 2007 video game Super Mario Galaxy and its 2010 sequel.

The film’s voice cast includes Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr., Donald Glover as Yoshi, Brie Larson as Princess Rosalina, and Glen Powell as Fox McCloud, among others.

What should people know about The Super Mario Galaxy Movie before walking into the theater?

Critics’ reactions to The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are incredibly mixed thus far, as it currently has a 44 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer with 91 reviews. Some are calling the movie fun and entertaining, while others feel it’s one-dimensional, uninspired, and low-brow entertainment.

Super Mario Galaxy fans who are especially excited to see Rosalina in the new movie may want to adjust their expectations. While Rosalina is an important character in the Super Mario Galaxy game, the reviews for the movie are saying that Larson’s character hardly gets anything to do.

As for Glen Powell’s Fox McCloud, despite the fact that he’s from a different Nintendo video game franchise (Mario and Fox are both in the Super Smash Bros. games), he appears to be in the movie more than Rosalina is. He doesn’t come in until the second half of the movie; however, once he arrives, he gets a pretty big role.

Finally, there is also a post-credit scene for The Super Mario Galaxy that fans are definitely going to want to stick around for.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is now playing in United States theaters.
