Supergirl Trailer: DC Fans Weigh in on if They Prefer Jason Momoa as Lobo or Aquaman
DC fans are chiming in regarding whether they prefer Jason Momoa playing Aquaman or Lobo following the release of the new Supergirl trailer.
DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures’ Supergirl will be released in United States theaters and IMAX this summer. Directed by Craig Gillespie, the movie will see Milly Alcock reprise her DCU role as Kara Zor-El after she briefly appeared at the end of 2025’s Superman, which was directed by James Gunn. Momoa also stars as Lobo.
What are people saying about Jason Momoa’s Lobo in the Supergirl trailer?
Prior to Supergirl, Momoa previously played Aquaman/Arthur Curry in the DCEU, which began in 2013 with Man of Steel. Following a cameo in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Momoa appeared in 2017’s Justice League, 2018’s Aquaman, 2021’s Zack Snyder’s Justice League, and 2023’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. He also had quick appearances in The Flash and Peacemaker Season 1, while he humorously voiced a LEGO version of Aquaman in 2019’s The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part.
The DCEU ended with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which then led Gunn and Peter Safran to create a new shared universe at Warner Bros. Pictures, the DCU. Momoa said several times that he wanted to play a live-action Lobo, which then became a reality when his casting was officially announced in December 2024.
While the first Supergirl trailer only offered a brief glimpse of Lobo, the newly released footage puts more of a spotlight on him. As a result, most DC fans are in agreement that they like Momoa better as Lobo than they do as Aquaman.
The synopsis for Supergirl reads, “When an unexpected and ruthless adversary strikes too close to home, Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, reluctantly joins forces with an unlikely companion on an epic, interstellar journey of vengeance and justice.”
Supergirl arrives on June 26, 2026.
