Robert De Niro’s Underrated 2023 Comedy Movie Comes to Hulu Today
Hulu subscribers can now watch Lionsgate’s underrated family comedy starring Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro and stand-up comedian Sebastian Maniscalco. As of today, the 2023 movie About My Father is now available to stream on Hulu. Despite receiving negative reviews from critics, the film was still well-received among moviegoers. Compared to its 37% approval rating, it currently holds a Popcornmeter score of 81% on Rotten Tomatoes.
What do we know about Robert De Niro’s About My Father movie?
About My Father was directed by Laura Terruso, with Maniscalco and Austen Earl writing the screenplay. It was loosely based on Maniscalco’s relationship with his father. The ensemble cast also included Leslie Bibb as Ellie, Kim Cattrall as Tigger, David Rasche as Bill, Anders Holm as Lucky, and Brett Dier as Doug. During its theatrical run, the movie grossed over $18 million at the box office.
“The film centers around Sebastian (Maniscalco), who is encouraged by his fiancée (Bibb) to bring his immigrant, hairdresser father, Salvo (De Niro), to a weekend get-together with her super-rich and exceedingly eccentric family. The weekend develops into what can only be described as a culture clash, leaving Sebastian and Salvo to discover that the great thing about family is everything about family,” reads the official synopsis.
Executive producers were Dan Balgoyen, Chris Fenton, Jared Ian Goldman, and Christopher Woodrow. It was produced by Judi Marmel, Andrew Miano, Chris Weitz, and Paul Weitz. The creative team consisted of cinematographer Rogier Stoffers, composer Stephanie Economou, editor Scott D. Hanson, production designer Javiera Varas, and costume designer Brenda Abbandandolo.
