X-Men Actor James Marsden on Which MCU Character Was Missed on Avengers: Doomsday Set
Cyclops actor James Marsden has commented on Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine seemingly being absent from Avengers: Doomsday.
Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday is currently in production. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, also known as the Russo Brothers, the movie is scheduled to arrive in United States theaters later this year. The sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, is dated for 2027.
So far, Marvel has released four Avengers: Doomsday teaser trailers. The first teaser revealed that Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers is officially returning to the MCU, while the second focused on Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and the third on a handful of X-Men characters, including Marsden. The fourth and final trailer then put the spotlight on Letitia Wright’s Shuri/Black Panther, Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s Ben Grimm/The Thing, and more.
What did James Marsden say about Avengers: Doomsday?
Speaking with ComicBook, Marsden said that he missed Jackman on the set of Avengers: Doomsday; however, he also cryptically cut himself short, suggesting that there might be some things about the matter that he can’t say.
“I love Hugh Jackman, and I love the dynamic between Wolverine and Cyclops,” Marsden said. “It was always a brotherly, healthy competition between the two of them, where they were annoyed with each other. It did feel like a brotherly relationship. I wouldn’t say that I was excited to slide into that role without him barking in my ear. He was missed. I’m trying to… answer, without saying too much… Yeah, that’s my answer.”
At this time, Jackman’s casting in Avengers: Doomsday has not been confirmed by Marvel. There have been plenty of rumors suggesting that he’ll appear in the movie in some capacity, and Jackman hasn’t given a straightforward answer when he’s been asked about returning as Wolverine in the past. He last reprised the Wolverine role in Deadpool & Wolverine, which was part of the MCU.
Avengers: Doomsday will be released on December 18, 2026. Avengers: Secret Wars follows on December 17, 2027.
