Sarah Michelle Gellar Joins New Action Comedy Cast After Buffy Revival Cancellation
Sarah Michelle Gellar lands a new big-screen role alongside RuPaul after her planned return to TV stalled, stepping into a chaotic action-comedy packed with drag icons. The film’s release shift also adds fresh momentum to the project.
Sarah Michelle Gellar, Raven-Symone and more join the cast of Stop That Train
Sarah Michelle Gellar is officially part of the ensemble for the upcoming action-comedy Stop That Train, joining a stacked lineup led by RuPaul, according to Variety. The film also brings in Raven-Symoné and Nicole Richie, along with several familiar faces making cameo-style appearances.
Gellar portrays herself in the film, which leans heavily into comedy and self-aware humor. This comes after the Buffy the Vampire Slayer revival series featuring Gellar was canceled by Hulu earlier this month.
The upcoming movie centers on a group of drag performers traveling aboard a glamorous high-speed train called the Glamazonian Express. When a massive disaster, dubbed “Stormaganza,” threatens the journey, the crew must team up with elite passengers and the train’s powerful leader, played by RuPaul, to save the day. Other names attached include Joel McHale, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and Chris Parnell, rounding out a lively supporting cast.
Helmed by Adam Shankman, the project is backed by Bleecker Street, World of Wonder, and Universal Pictures Content Group. Producers include RuPaul alongside Fenton Bailey, Randy Barbato, and Tom Campbell. The film marks another major collaboration for the Drag Race creative team as they expand into feature films.
Originally set for a late May release, the movie has now been pushed to June 12 in theaters. The delay gives the studio more room to position the film, especially as it builds buzz around its unique mix of comedy, action, and drag culture. With its energetic cast and wild premise, the film is shaping up to be a standout summer release.
