Horror Movie With a Dog as Lead Gets Hulu Streaming Date

Hulu will soon stream a recent horror movie featuring a dog as the lead. Good Boy is a supernatural horror feature that had its world premiere at SXSW on March 8, 2025, and its US debut on October 3, 2025. Directed by Ben Leonberg, who penned the screenplay with Alex Cannon, Good Boy revolves around Indy, a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, trying to protect his owner from a supernatural presence.

Good Boy starts streaming on Hulu in April

Good Boy arrives on Hulu on April 25. It’s the only movie debuting on the platform that day. Meanwhile, No Other Choice, which also came out in 2025, becomes available on the streamer on April 24, whereas Sean Penn and Dakota Johnson-led Daddio begins streaming on April 26.

The human cast of Good Boy includes Shane Jensen as Todd, Arielle Friedman as Vera, Larry Fessenden as Todd’s grandfather, and Stuart Rudin as Richard. Meanwhile, Indy, the canine character, is portrayed by Indy, the real-world dog. Additionally, Leonberg produced the movie with Kari Fischer. He also performed cinematography and editing duties.

Following its release, Good Boy found considerable commercial success and made $8.7 million at the global box office (via Box Office Mojo). The movie also did exceptionally well with the critics and currently has a 90% approval rating on the review-aggregating site Rotten Tomatoes. Good Boy won several accolades as well, including the Howl of the Fame Award for Indy’s performance at SXSW (via The Washington Post).

Pete Vonder Haar of Houston Press gave the movie a positive review. “But a dog in the lead role is just a gimmick if there’s not a solid film around it, and Leonberg never lets Good Boy descend into what could just as easily been a horror-comedy,” the critic wrote. “It’s tense and atmospheric, and there are enough jolts in there to keep you off balance, whether you’re concerned about Indy’s eventual fate or not.”
