$238M Horror Video Game Film Sequel Arrives on Peacock Very Soon
The Peacock library will comprise the 2025 sequel to a 2023 horror film, adapted from the video game franchise of the same name, starting next month. Despite the criticism it garnered, the film went on to become a massive commercial success.
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is about to hit Peacock in April
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 will arrive on Peacock starting April 3, 2026. As part of a deal with Universal Pictures, the film will stream exclusively on the platform.
The story is set after the events of Five Nights at Freddy’s (2023) and also explores the origins of Freddy Fazbear’s dark past. It begins with a 1982 flashback, showing William Afton murdering young Charlotte Emily at the restaurant. Her spirit then possesses the Marionette animatronic.
Years later, after a group of paranormal investigators unknowingly awaken Marionette, which possesses one of them. As strange incidents unfold, Mike is pulled back into the nightmare when his sister, Abby, goes missing.
Emma Tammi returned to direct the sequel with a script by Scott Cawthon, who is also the creator of the iconic game franchise on which the film is based. The returning cast includes Josh Hutcherson as Mike, Elizabeth Lail as Vanessa, Piper Rubio as Abby, and Matthew Lillard as William. Actors like Freddy Carter, Wayne Knight, and McKenna Grace are new additions to the film.
While details about Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 are still under wraps, all four lead cast members are expected to reprise their roles. In 2023, Lillard revealed that he was in a three-film contract with Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions.
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 was released worldwide on December 5, 2025. Upon release, critics were not generous towards it, resulting in an abysmal 16% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. In contrast, the original film received 33%.
However, the audience was definitely on board. It currently has an impressive user rating 83%, though it is slightly lower than the first film. Nonetheless, it earned over $238 million globally on a $51 million budget (via Box Office Mojo).
