The Hunt for Gollum Star Reveals Traumatic Hobbit Detail for New LOTR Sequel

A new detail about The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum has drawn attention. Most recently, Frodo actor Elijah Wood spoke about the lasting impact of the Hobbits’ journey. He also hinted that their experiences continue to shape them after the events of the original LOTR trilogy.

As The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum moves forward, the Yellowjackets star has reflected on the lasting emotional impact of the original trilogy on the Hobbits.

Speaking in a recent Dexerto interview, Elijah Wood agreed with the idea that the characters would not simply return to normal life after their journey. Addressing the idea directly, he said, “The Hobbits, based on the experience that they’ve all had, they carry a lot of trauma, for sure, of like everything they’ve been through together.”

Moreover, Wood pointed to the closing moments of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King as a depiction of that reality.

The 45-year-old actor added, “That moment at the end of Return of the King, where they’re all sitting in the pub, sharing those pints, we know what we’ve seen, we know what we’ve been through, and we’re forever changed for having been through it.” He described it as an accurate reflection of where the characters would stand after returning home.

Additionally, Elijah Wood touched on what he would like to see explored if he returns, suggesting a slightly different approach to Frodo’s role. “So it would be quite fun to see Frodo involved in some kind of skirmish,” he stated, pointing out that the character had limited action moments in the original films.

Notably, the discussion comes as the next installment in the franchise takes shape. Initial remarks from Ian McKellen have even suggested that Gandalf will feature in the film, with Frodo also expected to be part of the narrative.

However, Wood has yet to formally confirm his involvement. In a conversation with The Times, he indicated that a return remains a possibility, stating, “So there is a good chance.” Wood also expressed his excitement, saying, “There is a genuine feeling of getting the band back together.”
