Spider-Verse’s Lord & Miller Discuss If They’d Do Live-Action Spider-Man Movie
Would the Spider-Verse producers ever work on a live-action Spider-Man? Phil Lord and Christopher Miller addressed their future with the famous superhero.
What did Lord and Miller say about a potential live-action Spider-Man movie?
During an interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Josh Horowitz asked Lord and Miller if they had ever “entertained or been offered” a live-action Spider-Man film.
“Yes,” Miller said before laughing with Lord.
When Horowitz asked if it was a Spider-Man movie or one of the Sony spin-offs, Miller remained coy and did not mention a specific project.
“As you know, we love Spider-Man. We’re fans of the character and the world. We’ll leave it at that,” Miller said.
When Horowitz asked whether the duo would ever work on a live-action Spider-Man movie, Lord and Miller said they were focused on finishing their animated movies first.
Miller said, “We’ve got a whole Spider-Verse to finish. We’re halfway through this.”
Lord added, “I would say I would long to have the headspace available to think of yet another one of those darned things.”
Lord and Miller are two of the creative forces behind Sony’s Spider-Verse franchise. In 2018, Sony released Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which introduced the character of Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), who becomes the new Spider-Man and teams up with other Spider-creatures to save his dimension.
Lord co-wrote the screenplay with Rodney Rothman and produced it alongside Miller, Avi Arad, Amy Pascal, and Christina Steinberg. The film garnered rave reviews and won Best Animated Feature at the 2019 Oscars.
The success of Into the Spider-Verse spawned the 2023 sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. The film also received positive reviews and grossed over $690 million worldwide.
A third animated movie, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, is scheduled to be released in theaters on June 18, 2027.
Lord and Miller are also executive producers on Spider-Noir, a live-action TV show starring Nicolas Cage as Ben Reilly, an older version of Spider-Man who works as a private investigator. The Prime Video series premieres on May 25, 2026.
