The Boogeyman to hit Hulu next month
The Boogeyman will begin streaming on Hulu from Sunday, April 5, 2026. The movie is based on Stephen King’s 1973 short story of the same name.
The story centers around Will Harper and his two daughters, Sadie and Sawyer, who are mourning the death of Will’s wife. However, their lives take a terrifying turn when a patient named Lester Billings becomes Will’s patient. Unknown to him, Lester brings along a supernatural entity that has claimed the lives of all three of his kids. Soon, the entity begins haunting the Harper family, feeding on their grief.
Rob Savage directed the movie with a screenplay by Scott Beck, Bryan Woods, and Mark Heyman. It stars Sophie Thatcher as Sadie, Vivien Lyra Blair as Sawyer, Chris Messina as Will, and David Dastmalchian as Lester, among others.
The studio reportedly produced The Boogeyman as a straight-to-streaming release. But, following a successful screen test, it was released in theaters. Furthermore, Savage revealed that King himself saw the movie and was very appreciative of the adaptation (via GamesRadar).
“He sent a lovely, almost-essay about how much he enjoyed the movie. And then the next day I wake up and there’s an email in my inbox from Stephen King and he said he’s still thinking about the movie,” the director shared.
Subsequently, The Boogeyman had an advanced screening at the 2023 CinemaCon on April 26, followed by a debut in theaters on June 2, 2023. Upon release, the movie received a fairly positive reception from both critics and audiences. On Rotten Tomatoes, it currently holds a 60% Tomatometer score and a 65% Popcornmeter score. Additionally, it ended its theatrical run with a global haul of $67.3 million, per Box Office Mojo.
