Dune 3 First Look Previews Shocking Appearance for Timothée Chalamet

Ahead of Dune 3‘s rumored trailer releasing sometime soon, fans got their official first look at the movie today, previewing the upcoming shocking appearance of Timothée Chalamet in the third movie in the franchise.

Chalamet took to Instagram to share the first look at the highly anticipated third entry in the sci-fi franchise. The look was a simple shot of him as Paul Atreides, but in a much different fashion than we’re used to seeing. The new image shows a scarred Atreides, with his mouth covered by a mask but with visible scarring all over his face.

While the reason for the change will likely be explained in the movie, Dune: Part Three is expected to feature a time jump of more than 10 years from where we last saw Chalamet’s Atreides in Dune: Part Two, well into the galaxy-wide war that he kickstarted.

Check out the first look image at Dune: Part Three below:

What do we know about Dune 3?

Dune: Part Three is once again directed by Denis Villeneuve, who was behind the camera for the first two films. The third film in the franchise is based on Frank Herbert’s 1969 novel Dune Messiah. Alongside Chalamet, who returns as Paul Atreides, the cast of Dune: Part 3 also includes Zendaya as Chani, Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Nakoa-Wolf Momoa as Leto II Atreides, and Ida Brooke as Ghanima Atreides. Robert Pattinson is also set to appear in the film in an undisclosed role.

Filming for Dune: Part Three began in July 2025, and wrapped later in the year, in November. Currently, the film is set to release on December 18, 2026, the same as Marvel Studios’ highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday, with fans jokingly referring to the day as “Dunesday” a la 2023’s “Barbenheimer,” when both Barbie and Oppenheimer released on the same day.

A description of Herbier’s novel reads, “Dune Messiah continues the story of Paul Atreides, better known—and feared—as the man christened Muad’Dib. As Emperor of the known universe, he possesses more power than a single man was ever meant to wield. Worshiped as a religious icon by the fanatical Fremen, Paul faces the enmity of the political houses he displaced when he assumed the throne—and a conspiracy conducted within his own sphere of influence.

2021’s Dune and 2022’s Dune: Part Two received critical acclaim, with many fans and critics praising Villeneuve’s faithful adaptations. The two movies have combined to gross over $1 billion at the worldwide box office.
